Spreading over an area larger than 1 million hectares on the brazilian side of the Javari valley including several massive tributaries like the Itaquaí, the Quixito, the Ituí and other smaller rivers, lie some of the finest virgin rainforests holding all three forest eco-systems “igapó”, “várzea” and “terra-firme”, as well as all types of water-bodies ranging from huge black-water “ox-bow” lakes over deep channel-lakes, wetlands, marshes to cristal-clear jungle creeks; the area still carries abundant, diversified wildlife and plants with high individual-numbers per species, including new species waiting to be confirmed, accepted and named.
